Sustainable Winegrowing Australia – supporting a sustainable grape and wine industry
Sustainable Winegrowing Australia is the Australian wine industry's sustainability program – set up to support growers and winemakers in demonstrating and improving the sustainability of their businesses.
The program covers the fundamental components of sustainability (environmental,social and economic) and can be applied to both the vineyard and winery.It provides benchmarking tools and resources to enable planning,evaluation,control and communication.
Sustainable Winegrowing Australia is a voluntary program designed with flexibility to suit the changing goals and needs of all Australian grape and wine producers.It provides information for wine industry research,development and extension activities and can be used by members for benchmarking.
Sustainable Winegrowing Australia draws on the knowledge of an betway体育AWRI team with more than 100 years of combined wine industry experience.Dr Mardi Longbottom leads the program with support from viticulturists Marcel Essling and Tony Hoare and oenologists Matt Holdstock,Geoff Cowey and Adrian Coulter.
Sustainable Winegrowing Australia is managed by the betway体育AWRI,with strategic direction from a steering committee with representatives from the betway体育AWRI,Wine Australia and Australian Grape & Wine.Industry input is provided by a Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) which includes program users,regional representatives and other key stakeholders.
The betway体育AWRI acknowledges all of the people and organisations that have contributed to the evolution of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia,in particular McLaren Vale Grape,Wine & Tourism Association,Australian Grape & Wine,Wine Australia,Freshcare Ltd,the South Australian Government,Treasury Wine Estates and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture.
